Stainless Steel Ring Material Selection
Mar 01, 2022
Stainless steel is a kind of high-alloy steel that can resist corrosion in air or chemically corrosive medium. As the name suggests, it is not easy to rust, and has beautiful surface and corrosion resistance. It does not need to undergo surface treatment such as color plating. Inherent surface properties. However, the only stainless steel on the market that is really suitable for processing rings is SUS316L medical stainless steel, at least SUS304 material! Now most products are made of stainless steel tube, stainless steel plate or stainless steel wire!
To remind you, the stainless steel of jewelry has several typical steel grades such as 304, 304L and 316, 316L.
304 is a universal stainless steel with a melting point of 1454ºC and a density of 8g/cm³. It is widely used in the production of equipment and parts that require good comprehensive properties (corrosion resistance and formability). The variant of type 304 stainless steel is low carbon stainless steel 304L. .
316 stainless steel has a melting point of 1398 ºC and a density of 8g/cm³. Its resistance to pitting corrosion in marine and chemical industrial environments is much better than that of 304 stainless steel. Among them, the variants of type 316 stainless steel include low-carbon stainless steel 316L, nitrogen-containing high-strength stainless steel 316N, and free-cutting stainless steel 316F with higher sulfur content.
316 is a molybdenum-containing stainless steel. To remind you, under high temperature conditions, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is lower than 15% and higher than 85%, 316 stainless steel has a wide range of uses. 316 stainless steel also has good resistance to chloride attack. The maximum carbon content of 316L stainless steel is 0.03, and its resistance to carbide precipitation is better than that of 316 stainless steel. It can be used in applications where annealing after welding cannot be performed and maximum corrosion is required.
The corrosion resistance of 316 is better than that of 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel is also resistant to corrosion by marine and industrial atmospheres. The work is a jewelry material. In order to ensure its good corrosion resistance, it is best to choose 316L stainless steel.
